A lot of people wonder if they can use opera glasses. It does not matter if you wear glasses or you can not see very well, you can use opera glasses if you wish. They will not hurt your vision as long as you are not walking around looking through them all the time.

The prices on opera glasses can be a lot of different prices. They can cost anywhere from thirty dollars to hundreds of dollars. The price depends on what kind you get, where you get them from and what they are made out of. You can get them made out of Mother of Pearl and this can be costly but is worth it because they are beautiful.

In order to see if Opera Glasses are right for you, you should see if you can borrow a pair from a friend. If you friend does not have any then you can always rent a pair from the opera, they usually offer the glasses at a pretty cheap price.

If you don’t know anything about Argentine Tango apart of the tons of cliches which many people have in their minds, you actually might ask yourself “What the heck is that guy chatting about?” Just give me a minute and I will explain.

Maybe you know Tango just from movies where obscure figures on dim lighted dance floors do bizarre movements, chewing wagon tons of roses. Perhaps you made up your judgment about Tango having seen dancehall dance competitions, frozen grins, stiff moves, heads twisting unnaturally with each movement… Might be you went to a Tango Show, spectacular, technically brilliant sensuous and maybe most electrifying.

Yet, what has all this to do with social competence? To respond to this questions we should go back to the origins of Tango. Tango started in Buenos Aires and Montevideo at the end of the 19th century. Immigrants from all over the world came to the Rio della Plata wanting a better live.

At the same time local Argentineans from the countryside came to Buenos Aires and Montevideo also. They’d got made redundant on the enormous haciendas, the kingdom size cattle farms, and were attempting to find work in the big city. As both groups competed for roles, housing and often mere survival tensions were inescapable. The Tango, which came from Argentina, is a sultry and attractive partner dance, one that was originally danced in Argentina’s brothels. Opera glasses are often called theater binoculars. These optical instruments are compact and low in power, but useful in magnification of the performers. Originally the glasses were used exclusively at operas. Due to the lower light conditions the magnification power of opera glasses is always kept under 5x power and most are at a 3x power.

Opera glasses compare in some ways to binoculars. However, opera glasses are designed for indoor use. They are found useful at indoor theaters and in many other performances where seats may be located some distance from the stage, as in balconies or the back of the theater. The glasses give the patron the ability to see the stage from the far away locations.

Opera glasses work on a different optical basis than do binoculars. Binoculars are classified as a matched set of folded telescopes while opera glasses are made on the principle of a Galileo’s first telescope. They have a convex lens nearest the stage and a convex lens nearer the eye. This makes the image to appear right side up, unlike other telescopes. The use of opera glasses is something that is helpful for any performing arts event. You can use these glasses with ease and can see things clearly through them. They are also items that can look impressive. If you are looking for opera glasses you should be taking a few things into consideration.

The build of the glasses is the first thing to watch for. When you are at an opera house or other performing arts center you will need to look your best. The glasses you use should be built with brass materials that are elegant in appearance. Brass will also be durable and cannot scratch easily. The paneling can also feature a wooden finish to it.

Different types of glasses will have different magnification levels. Most pairs will work with magnifying things by three times. Some of these glasses will work with magnification levels that are up to five times. This is especially useful if you are sitting very far from the stage.

You may not want to bring binoculars to catch all the action of a performance on stage so Opera Glasses would be the next best thing. Opera houses built many years ago have balconies that are very far from the stage with cheaper seats. Often times they were such a distance that you could only see figures moving across the stage and forget about seeing faces that is part of the acting processes. Opera glasses would enable those people in the gallery to see much better almost to the point of seeing the facial expressions of the performers. Opera Glasses are not a new item on the market because they have been available since the 50’s.

Binoculars and Opera Glasses have several major differences including the fact that opera glasses are smaller and made to be unnoticed or be tucked away where no one could see them until the performance started. Today there are several types that look like a flat case easily carried in a women’s bag or in a suit pocket, but touch a button and they pop up. There are some that fold up on each other and hard to notice unless they are fully pulled out and ready to use. Some manufactures make reproductions of older models that have a rod from which to hold them called lorgnettes enabling the view to hold with one hand. Wicked the musical is absolutely brilliant. We have all watched The Wizard of Oz, made in 1939, growing up every year. Now everyone can watch The Wizard of Oz anytime they please if they purchase the DVD.

To begin, I advise you to bring a pair of opera glasses. You will find amazing costumes, and characters you won’t believe, you will not want to miss one bit, and this is what opera glasses will do for you. The musical Hairspray is set in June in the year 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland. The main character, Tracy, is an overweight young girl. The young girl dreams of becoming famous. If you do not have front row seats, you will want to bring your opera glasses so as not to miss a heartbeat of this fast-paced musical.

As Tracy is watching television one day, she hears that a popular show is going to sponsor a dance contest. Tracy knows that is is her long dreamed of shot at fame. When her overweight mother finds out about her plans, she discourages the idea for two reasons, one is that she worries that people will make fun of her sweet but overweight daughter, and the other is that she thinks the show plays racist music.

Tracy does make it to the audition with permission from her father, Wilbur. While she is auditioning she meets the popular hunk Link Larkin. Get ready to put on your opera glasses as you will want to catch Tracy’s eyes light up just as yours may have back in high school. Tracy daydreams that she and Link Larkin will end up together one day. She sings absolutely beautiful songs about her love sick dream. Opera glasses was one of the byproducts of a long line of inventions. It started during 1608 with the Dutch optician Hans Lipperhey manufacturing binoculars comprising of two twin telescopes connected by a centerpiece. They had an impressive magnification ability of x3. Not to be left behind the Italian inventor Galileo Galilee within a year dramatically improved the design of telescopes, allowing a magnification of x30.

Binoculars gave a much wider field of view than telescopes, but since they had 2 convex lenses, the picture that you saw was inverted. It wasn’t until 1617 that Anton Schyrle added an additional lens to re-invert the image. In 1758 John Dollond of England invented the achromatic (color free) lens and thereby solved the problem of color distortion.

One of the final important developments in binocular technology happened when the Italian gunnery officer Ignazio Porro invented prismatic binoculars, thereby once again increasing the field of vision dramatically and making much larger magnification possible.

Opera glasses are mentioned for the first time in London newspaper advertisements dating back to 1730. These were not binoculars, but small Galilean telescopes. They were both used decoratively and to watch opera with. The bodies were often inlaid with gems, mother of pearl, ivory, enamel and other types of decorations.  Read more...

Devices to improve eyesight in general have been around for hundreds of years. It was not until the 1800’s that opera glasses achieved their position as a status symbol among theater-goers of the day.

Opera was becoming an increasingly popular social event. But not everyone was able to afford the high prices for seats with a close view of the stage. To get a good view of what was happening on stage it became necessary to find a compact way of magnifying it. Scientists found a way to combine telescopic lenses with stereoscopic prisms and invented a method by which a clear three dimensional view of the stage was available.

Like many other accessories, opera glasses quickly became status symbols. They were used by members of high society to view what was happening in the audience as well as what was on stage.
